Persistence, People, and Projects: Lewis Peddie’s Journey with innDex.
In celebration of Construction Inclusion Week, a global initiative dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and respect across the construction industry, we’re shining a spotlight on our very own Lewis Peddie. His story is one of persistence, adaptability, and finding the right fit. After nearly three years at innDex, Lewis has recently stepped into the role of Special Projects Manager. His career path from leaving school at 16, serving in the Army, and trying a range of jobs before finding his place in construction, shows how non-linear journeys can lead to inspiring success stories in our industry.
Trials and Persistence.
Like many teenagers, Lewis left school at 16 without a clear plan. He joined the Army, but even then, he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do next. After leaving, he bounced through a variety of jobs: his first taste of construction, gardening, tree surgery, and even office roles.
None of them felt right, but each role taught him something. Then, through a mix of contacts and freelance jobs, he found himself drawn back into construction. A phone call later, innDex came into the picture. And that’s where things started to make sense.
It’s not been a straight path, but it’s been a story of trying, learning, and keeping at it until he found something that clicked.
Learning Along The Way.
What’s interesting is how every step along the way shaped Lewis into who he is now. The Army gave him discipline. Jumping between different jobs gave him adaptability. Site management roles taught him the technical side of construction. And when it came to troubleshooting? He learned to just roll his sleeves up, figure it out, and get it sorted.
At his first construction role, he learnt the importance of people as much as process. When he joined innDex, he threw himself in the deep end, learning systems and fixing problems on site through trial and error. That mindset fast-tracked his technical know-how.
From Ops Manager to Special Projects Manager.
Lewis took on the role of Operations Manager when he first joined innDex. From managing client relationships, overseeing day-to-day operations, and even installing equipment on site, he was always ready to get stuck in.
As innDex grew, roles became more specialised. Lewis leaned into what he enjoyed most: being on site, solving problems, and working with the teams building the projects. Fast forward to now, and his role as Special Projects Manager has him overseeing projects across the UK and abroad, supporting engineers, carrying out site surveys, and making sure clients are set up for success.

Boots on the ground.
Lewis is at his best when he’s out on site. He turns up in boots, hi-vis, and a hard hat, ready to get hands-on. If something needs fixing, he won’t just pass it on. He’ll get it sorted there and then. Lewis knows how quickly things move on site and the pressure teams are under, so keeping things running smoothly is always top of mind. That hands-on approach builds real trust. Site teams see him as someone who gets their world and is there to make life easier, bridging the gap between innDex and the people on the ground to make sure our tech works in practice, not just on paper.
innDex soon spotted that this is where Lewis really shines – out with the teams, building relationships, solving problems on the spot, and keeping projects moving. By giving him the space to focus on what he does best, Lewis has thrived, progressed quickly, and become a key part of the business.
Finding the right fit.
Lewis’ journey is a reminder that careers in construction don’t always follow a straight line and that’s exactly what makes them powerful. His persistence, adaptability, and hands-on approach have shaped him into a leader who thrives in challenging environments. As we mark Construction Inclusion Week, Lewis’ story highlights the importance of giving people from all backgrounds the opportunity to grow, contribute, and succeed in the industry. At innDex, we’re proud to see him step into his new role as Special Projects Manager, continuing to support projects across the UK and internationally, while embodying the spirit of inclusion and progress in construction.

"Don’t overthink it, just get stuck in. You don’t need to know everything from day one. What matters isn’t what you know, it’s your attitude. Be willing to graft, talk to people, and learn as you go. If you’re the kind of person who likes solving problems and helping people get things done, there’s a place for you in this industry.”
