BREEAM stands for Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method. It's a framework that measures, scores and certifies how sustainable a construction project really is.
BRE launched BREEAM back in 1990. Since then, it's set the standard for environmental performance at every stage of a project, from the initial design through to spec, build, and operation. Whether a new build or a refurbishment, it applies to all.
A BREEAM assessment scores projects across different lifecycle stages, including new construction, refurbishment, and in-use. Each one gets marked and evaluated against 12 core categories:
- Energy
- Health & Wellbeing
- Water
- Materials
- Waste
- Transport
- Land Use & Ecology
- Pollution
- Management
- Resources
- Resilience
- Innovation
BREEAM isn't a legal must-have. But planning authorities, housing associations, and government frameworks regularly ask for it anyway, especially across the UK and Europe.
Getting certified helps you cut climate risks, lower lifecycle costs, and boost your asset's overall market value.
innDex’s Asset Management tool can be used to record every hour your plant and equipment run, so you can track the CO2 and energy they use. You can also record meter readings from temporary building supplies and generator fuel that’s used on site.
Every clock-in logs a trip. innDex automatically records all travel to and from sites for operatives and staff.
Deliveries and collections of materials, plant and equipment work the same way through the Delivery Management tool. Even unscheduled drops get logged. The traffic marshal just enters the details in the app on arrival.
All energy consumption, including water usage can be recorded in the Daily Diary by the site management team
Partner your environmental monitoring supplier with innDex (compatibility permitting), and use IoT devices to record things like air pollution, dust, CO2, vibration and noise monitoring.
The Progress Photos tool captures daily site conditions, including any surface water pollution. Monitor drainage runs with photos and inspections of catch pits, water treatment systems, and site water supplies. You can also link IoT devices to record any specific project needs.
Upload your policy to innDex and build it into your induction process. You can also use it as a ToolBox Talk too, so everyone on the project is aware and knows where they stand.
Upload your plan to innDex and brief the whole team. Send it out through Site Messaging, or brief it in person, get it signed off, and store it with your management documents.
The Delivery Management tool photographs and stores every delivery ticket electronically. Traffic marshals check timber deliveries for the right certification and photograph the evidence.
innDex maintains open APIs, so we can connect and collaborate with other hardware and software services. That means more capability, faster results, and less time spent chasing information. It also means innDex can play a real part in your BREEAM accreditation, helping you get outcomes worth talking about. And it all lives in one place. One platform to record everything, so nothing gets lost, missed, or chased down after the fact.
